9/29/2006 Message to Entergy Employees - Get
the Facts - Entergy New Orleans’ Recovery Plan
Are repairs still needed to prevent
power outages in New Orleans?
Yes, repairs are still needed. Prior
to Katrina, ENO had one of the most reliable electric systems in the country
and had the flexibility and redundancy to deal with storm events without suffering
widespread outages. The extended outages experienced by some customers at the
beginning of summer 2006 were due to a greatly impaired system. Ongoing
improvements to the electric transmission and delivery system are steadily
reducing the number of outages in the city and strengthening reliability, but
additional work remains to be done. ENO has requested federal Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to help restore the electric and gas
systems to their previous level of reliability.
