At this time, remaining damage to the transmission system includes 33 lines and 17 substations out of service. Damages caused by Gustav to Entergy’s system included 240 transmission lines and 352 substations knocked out of service. Entergy is using specialized equipment to rebuild its system, especially in marshy areas. Special equipment includes airboats, crew boats, tug boats, barges, marsh buggies and cranes. A Chinook helicopter is on loan from the Ohio National Guard in conjunction with the Department of Energy and Department of Homeland Security to carry especially heavy equipment into the marsh. Electrical service has been restored to all of the 12 refineries affected by the storm.
